FLIGHTS

Leon/Guanajuato International Airport (BJX)

This airport is about 90 minutes from San Miguel.

Querétaro Intercontinental Airport (QRO)

This airport is about 75 minutes from San Miguel.

Mexico City Airport (MEX)

This airport is about 4 hours from San Miguel but varies based on traffic.

If you decide to visit Mexico City, consider booking a domestic flight into QRO or BJX.

Airport Transfer Services

We recommend booking your airport transfers in advance through BajioGo.

BajioGo offers both private and shared transfers. We have used both and had positive experiences both times. Shared rides are via sprinter van, and private rides are via SUVs.

HOTELS

We have toured each of these properties and have listed the hotels in each category by preference based on comfort, location, and value.

Please note that there are many, many more hotels in San Miguel. And, there are also tons of excellent, reasonably priced Airbnbs.

We strongly recommend staying in Zona Centro, proximal to the Parroquia (Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel), or El Parque, proximal to Parque Juarez. San Miguel is largely a pedestrian city, so you should try to avoid staying anywhere that will require you to drive to the venues.

For more detailed information, please check out our hotel guide below.

House Rentals

In addition to AirBnB, we recommend using the following resources.

Activities and Attractions

Walking tours will depart from Hotel Matilda at 10:00 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and will last approximately 2 hours.

Guests will receive earpieces and will be led by an English-speaking guide.

If you did not complete the wedding survey signing up for a tour but are interested in joining, please contact Clare to confirm your spot. We will do our best to accommodate you! Please note that walking tours have limited capacity.

Please find our San Miguel guide below.

This guide includes our recommended hotels, restaurants, and activities. Please feel free to reach out with questions!

FAQ

I want to extend my trip. Where should I go?

We recommend Mexico City, Oaxaca, Puerto Escondito, or Zihuatanejo.

Is San Miguel de Allende safe?

Yes! San Miguel de Allende is perfectly safe. In fact, a significant portion of the population is comprised of retired expats.

What's the weather like in March?

In March, the weather is typically dry with highs in the low 80s and lows in the high 40s. It gets cold at night!

What if I don't speak Spanish?

You will be fine! Most people we've encountered at restaurants and hotels speak English.

Do I need to bring Pesos?

It's a good idea to bring some Pesos because you'll get a better exchange rate at your bank than you will at the ATM or airport. But, almost all businesses and restaurants accept credit cards, although American Express is not universally accepted. The only places we've needed cash are the markets and taco trucks.

What if I need to arrange a ride around town?

We recommend using Uber for rides around town, but most places are reachable within a 15 minute walk. When using Uber, you can elect to pay via credit card or cash.

Is the water safe to drink?

Tap water is not safe to drink, but all of the restaurants we have visited have served bottled or filtered tap water. We have never had any issues. If you are staying in an Airbnb, confirm with the host that the house is equipped with filtered water. (It should be!)

Can I just grab a taxi at the airport when I land?

No. QRO and BJX are small airports, and there's no guarantee that a taxi will be available if you have not pre-arranged one. We highly recommend sorting this out in advance via BajioGo or our shuttle request form.
